Operations

The Acme Steel Company utilizes blast furnace operations for the production of iron. Blast furnace operations consist of iron production through the addition of limestone flux, coke, iron ore, and combustion air. Wind to the blast furnace is blown by turbo blowers located at the boilerhouse. Fuel combustion in the boilers is used to produce steam that drives the turbo blowers. The iron produced at the blast furnace is typically transported to the basic oxygen furnace for steel production, however, iron can be cast directly into 90 lb briquettes called pigs at the blast furnace. The Blast Furnace Plant runs a complicated, intricate system where each working component is integral to the making of molten iron for the production of steel.
